Taxonomy In Sch. Bip. in Webb (1839) seven (t. 90--96) plates were published depicting 6 species and 4 varieties of Argyranthemum, so the generic name was then not validly published. Although the first one is of A. jacobaeifolium this is no reason to regard this as the (lecto)type. Also, it is a syntype of Preauxia Sch. Bip., also regarded as a distinct section of Chrysanthemum [H. Christ, Bot. Jahrb. Syst. 9 (1887) 146] or Argyranthemum [Humphries (1976: 227)] or even genus (LT not designated, fide ING, May 13, 2003). Humphries regarded it as a monotypic taxon reducing A. * jacobifolium (1976: 232) to a variety of A. adauctum (Link) Humphries. If no lectotypification has yet been made, Preauxia adauctum seems the logical choice. [details]
